CLASS 1 VEHICLES - Semi-trailer trucks.

CLASS 1 LICENCE permits the holder to operate all motor vehicles or combination of vehicles, semi-trailers, trucks, buses, etc., including all vehicles in Classes 2,3,4 and 5, except motorcycles.

May operate a Moped.***

Vehicles with Air Brake equipment unless licence is endorsed.

Class 6 vehicles (motorcycles).

Medical report required on initial application. Must also submit a medical - every 10 years if age 18-39; every 5 years if age 40-60; every 2 years if age 61 or older.

Must meet prescribed vision standards.

Written or oral tests on all classes of vehicles. Written or oral test on Air Brake operation where required. Road test in Class 1 vehicle.

CLASS 2 VEHICLES - Buses* having a seating capacity of over 24 passengers, while carrying passengers; school buses** having a seating capacity of over 36 passengers, while carrying passengers.

CLASS 2 LICENCE permits the holder to operate all vehicles except Class 1 (semi-trailer trucks) or motorcycles.

May operate a Moped.***

Vehicles with Air Brake equipment unless licence is endorsed.

Class 1 vehicles and motorcycles.

CLASS 3 VEHICLES - Trucks with more than two axles, including any combination of vehicles or trucks with not more than two axles towing a vehicle with a registered gross vehicle weight of more than 4,540 kgs but does not include a semi-trailer truck.

CLASS 3 LICENCE permits the holder to operate all vehicles except vehicles in Class 1 or 2 or motorcycles.

May operate a Moped.***

Vehicles with Air Brake equipment unless licence is endorsed.

Class 1 or 2 vehicles or motorcycles.

CLASS 4 VEHICLES - Taxis, ambulances, and other emergency vehicles, and buses* with a seating capacity between 11 and 24 occupants (including driver), or school buses** with a seating capacity between 11 and 36 passengers occupants (including driver).

CLASS 4 LICENCE permits the holder to operate all motor vehicles except Classes 1,2 or 3, or motorcycles.

May operate a Moped.***

Vehicles with Air Brake equipment unless licence is endorsed.

Class 1, 2 or 3 vehicles or motorcycles.

CLASS 5 VEHICLES - Passenger cars, a bus while not carrying passengers, a truck with not more than two axles, and any combination of vehicles consisting of a truck with not more than two axles and a towed vehicle with a registered gross vehicle weight of not more than 4,540 kgs.

CLASS 5 LICENCE permits the holder to operate a Class 5 motor vehicle and a Class 3 motor vehicle if it is registered as a farm truck.

May operate a Moped.***

Vehicles with Air Brake equipment unless licence is endorsed.

Class 1, 2, 3 or 4 vehicles or motorcycles.

Must meet prescribed vision standards.

Written or oral basic knowledge test. Not required if holder of a Class 6 or 7 licence. Written or oral test on Air Brake operation where required. Road test in Class 5 vehicle.

CLASS 6 VEHICLES - Motorcycles.

CLASS 6 LICENCE permits the holder to operate a motorcycle. Operation of vehicles in Classes 1 to 5 are prohibited, unless the motorcycle Class 6 licence is held in combination with Classes 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 licence.

May operate a Moped.***

A person wishing to operate a Moped only will be tested on a Moped and restricted to the operation of a Moped.***

Vehicles in Classes 1 to 5.

Written or oral tests on Class 6 vehicle Road test in Class 6 vehicle (motorcycle).

CLASS 7 LICENCE A learner's licence permitting the holder to drive as a learner with in Classes 1 to 5 , if shown on licence, and accompanied by a licences driver with at least twenty-four months experience in that class of vehicle. Class 7 may be used in conjunction with a valid motorcycle instruction permit.

REQUIREMENTS FOR CLASS 7 LICENCE:

-Parental approval required if under 18 years

-Birth certificate and other identification on initial application is required.

Any class of vehicles other than hose shown on the licence in the authorized instruction box. 16 with parental approval

151/2 if enrolled in Driver Education program

Supplementary written or oral tests for learner licence for class 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6.

AIR BRAKE ENDORSEMENT -permits the holder to drive the vehicles equipped with Air Brakes in the Class of Vehicle for which he/she is licenced. Drivers of Class 3 Farm Trucks equipped with Air Brakes are exempt from this requirement.       Must complete special written or oral Air Brake Test

* Definition of a Bus : A bus is any vehicle with a seating capacity of a least 11 occupants (including the driver) used primarily to carry passengers. It excludes vehicles used for personal transportation by the owner or with the owner’s permission

*** Mopeds are not allowed to be driven on highways with a speed limit exceeding 80 km/h. However, mopeds are allowed to cross these highways.
