Class Licence System
ALL PERSONS WHO OBTAIN LICENCES TO DRIVE IN THE PROVINCE
OF MANITOBA WILL BE LICENCED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CLASS OR CLASSES OF VEHICLES WHICH
THEY ARE QUALIFIED TO OPERATE.
Why A Class Licence?
The Manitoba Driver Class Licence program was introduced to recognize the professional
from the non-professional driver. In order to further the promotion of safety for all
highway users, drivers are asked to meet vision, physical ability, knowledge, and skill
standards required to operate a particular class of vehicle.
Do I Have To File A Medical Report?
Yes. An applicant for a Class 1,2,3 or 4 licence must file a completed medical report
on initial application, or when requested; thereafter, a medical report must be filed
every 10 years if age 18-39; every 5 years if age 40-60; every 2 years if age 61 or older.
REMEMBER: Manitoba Health will NOT pay the cost of third party requests for a
medical report or any related examinations and tests. This is your responsibility!
What Will An Examination For A Class 1,2,3 or 4 Driver
Licence Include?
— A vision screening test based on the vision standards established for the
classification sought.
— A medical report of the driver's physical condition. This report must be filed and
approved before authorized instruction will be issued.
— A knowledge examination, based on the information contained in the Professional
Driver's Manual.
— A complete pre-trip inspection of the vehicle by the applicant.
— A road test in a vehicle of the type described in the class of licence sought. The
vehicle must be supplied by the applicant.
Age Limits For Licencing Of Drivers
Any person 18 years of age or over who is medically fit may apply for a licence Class
1,2,3 or 4: any person who is 16 years or over and medically fit may apply for a licence
for Classes 5, 6 and 7. A person between 151/2 and 16 years of age enrolled in
a High School Driver Education Program and medically fit, may apply for a Class 7 licence
with authorized instruction in Class 5 vehicles only. Consent of either a parent or a
guardian is required if the applicant is under 18 years of age.
